A little history

Edgewood started as its own town after Reconstruction, built to help ease Atlanta’s housing shortage. It was originally called Hardeville, after landowner William J. Hardee, and the Edgewood name appears by 1879. A Georgia Railroad depot and later streetcar lines made it an easy commute to downtown, and the town, which once included today’s Candler Park, was annexed into Atlanta in 1909. After decades of decline, Edgewood saw new investment in the 2000s, including the Edgewood Retail District on former Atlanta Gas Light land off Moreland Avenue.
