A little history
Capitol View Manor’s land was originally farmland owned by families including John Shannon and the Deckners. The neighborhood was established in 1920 and annexed into Atlanta in 1925, and like its neighbor Capitol View, it takes its name from the view of the Georgia State Capitol. In the mid-20th century, construction of I-75/85 cut through land to the east and disrupted local streets, and the area declined for decades. Since the renaming of Stewart Avenue as Metropolitan Parkway in the late 1990s and the arrival of BeltLine investment, renovations and new interest have brought the neighborhood back.
What it’s like to live in Capitol View Manor
Capitol View Manor feels like a quiet pocket of the city, with tree-covered streets and homes on generous lots. The BeltLine’s Westside Trail along the north side connects to Capitol View, Adair Park and West End, Perkerson Park is a short drive south, and the MET Atlanta arts complex is on Metropolitan Parkway. I-75/85 next door makes Downtown and the airport quick drives.
Homes and prices
Most homes were built between the early 1920s and the mid-1940s, including bungalows, Victorians, Cape Cods and colonials, with later homes mostly ranches. Over the past 12 months, 9 homes sold at a median of $405,000 and went under contract in a median of 12 days, and only 1 home was for sale in October. With so few sales, prices can swing a lot.
