A little history

Mozley Park is named for Dr. Hiram Mozley, who owned the land. After his death in 1902, his heirs’ property was laid out in a street grid, and homes went up over about 20 years starting around 1920, many with granite curbs and hexagonal paver sidewalks that remain today. In 1922 residents asked the city to buy the Mozley estate for a park, which now has lakes, a pool and green space. Around 1949–1951 Mozley Park became one of the first Westside neighborhoods where Black families broke housing barriers, and it has been a proud, community-rooted neighborhood ever since.
