A little history

Fairburn traces its roots to the 1830s, and its town charter was enacted in 1854. The town grew around the railroad depot; cotton shipped out by rail, and from 1911 to 1929 an electric railway carried passengers to College Park. In 1870 the Campbell County courthouse moved to Fairburn, and the town served as the county seat until 1932, when Campbell County was absorbed into Fulton. Today the downtown is a Commercial Historic District on the National Register, with about 20 historic buildings and two 1917 depots, now restaurants.

What it’s like to live in Fairburn

Fairburn mixes small-town downtown life with suburban convenience. The downtown courtyard hosts concerts, events and the Fairburn Farmers Market, and the Old Campbell County Courthouse is home to the Campbell County Historical Society. Each spring the Georgia Renaissance Festival draws around a quarter million visitors. The Fairburn Education Campus hosts Georgia Military College and Brenau University. Most residents drive, using I-85 and GA-74 to reach the airport, Atlanta and Peachtree City.
