A little history

Conyers grew up around the Georgia Railroad. The first known settler, a blacksmith named John Holcomb, built a log cabin where the county courthouse now stands and opposed the railroad crossing his land. He eventually sold to Dr. William D. Conyers, a Covington banker, for $700, and Dr. Conyers deeded the right-of-way to the railroad, creating a village called Conyers Station. By 1854 it had about 400 residents and was incorporated as the Town of Conyers. Today the historic depot serves as the Conyers Welcome Center, and many Olde Town homes and buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1996 the city’s Georgia International Horse Park hosted Olympic equestrian, mountain biking and modern pentathlon events.

What it’s like to live in Conyers

Daily life in Conyers moves at a small-town pace. Olde Town has shops, a pavilion, a botanical garden and Center Street Arts, and it fills up for festivals and seasonal events. The Georgia International Horse Park hosts horse shows, concerts, races and the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival, and Cherokee Run Golf Club sits on the same grounds. The Monastery of the Holy Spirit, home to Trappist monks since 1944, welcomes visitors to its grounds and gift shop. For trails, the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area is a short drive west. Most residents drive, and I-20 is the main route into Atlanta.

Homes and prices

You’ll find historic homes near Olde Town, mid-century brick ranches, traditional two-story homes in established subdivisions, and newer construction and townhomes on the outskirts. In the Conyers area, 954 homes sold over the past 12 months (Nov 2025–Oct 2026) at a median of $305,000, with a median of 30 days on the market and homes selling at about 100% of list price. There were 418 homes for sale in October, so buyers have more choice than in many intown neighborhoods. Many Conyers addresses are in unincorporated Rockdale County, so confirm city limits for taxes and services.

Who Conyers fits

Conyers fits buyers who want more space for the money, first-time buyers priced out of closer-in neighborhoods, and anyone who likes a historic downtown with parks and trails nearby. It’s a good match if you work east of Atlanta or have a flexible schedule. If you need a daily rush-hour commute downtown, test the I-20 drive first.

My step-by-step guide to buying in Conyers

Step 1: Get pre-approved

Talk with a lender before you tour. A pre-approval letter shows sellers you’re serious and tells you your real budget.

Step 2: Pick your part of Conyers

Compare Olde Town, established subdivisions and newer communities. Each has different prices, lot sizes and HOA rules.

Step 3: Test the commute

Drive I-20 at the times you’ll actually travel, and check the route to work, school and the airport.

Step 4: Check city limits and schools

Confirm whether the home is inside the City of Conyers or unincorporated Rockdale County, and look up school assignments for the address.

Step 5: Tour and compare

Look at several homes so you know what your budget buys. I’ll pull recent sales for each street.

Step 6: Make a smart offer

With homes selling near list price and a median of 30 days on market, price and terms matter. I’ll help you set both.

Step 7: Inspect and close

Get a full inspection, and add a sewer scope for older homes. Then review HOA documents and get ready for closing.
