The 7 Steps to Buying a Home in Atlanta

Here are all the steps of the home-buying process here in Atlanta.

How do you buy a home in Atlanta? A lot of people ask this, but the steps are pretty simple:

  1. Find an agent you want to work with.
  2. Reach out to a local lender. In today’s market, it’s important to work with local lenders. Your agent might already have a list of good ones you can reach out to.
  3. Look at properties. Once you’re approved for a loan, you’ll look at houses that might be your future home. This is easily the most exciting step.
  4. Make an offer. Once you find a house you love, your agent will help you piece together and understand the offer you make on it.
  5. “Just think that about a month from now, you could be in a new home.”

  6. Work through due diligence. Due diligence happens after your offer is accepted. It’s when you get the house inspected, which will show you anything that might be wrong with the property. You can work with your agent and request any necessary repairs.
  7. Finish your finances and appraisal contingency. Your loan will have to go through, and the bank will do an appraisal on the house. Remember that they will only lend you up to what they think the home is worth.
  8. Go to closing. In Atlanta, we close at an attorney’s office about 30 days after we start the process. Just think that about a month from now, you could be in a new home.
